United are not the only club interested, with AC Milan also said to be tracking the player who scored six goals in just 15 appearances last season.
The United manager needs more out-and-out wingers but Richarlison would not be an instant solution given his inexperience and possible difficulties securing a work permit.
United have brought in Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof so far this summer and they need another winger and a holding midfielder if they want to challenge both domestically and in the Champions League next season.
That said, they could also look at signing a star of the future for a relatively cheap fee - at least when you consider some of the prices being commanded from Europe's top clubs for average players - and only time will tell if United bring in the Brazilian or continue to watch his development from afar.
