Manchester United have been quite heavily linked with a move to sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier this summer, with Jose Mourinho seemingly intent on adding a more defensive-minded midfielder to the squad. Now, the Manchester Evening News’ Samuel Luckhurst has given another update.
He took to
Twitter to write that Dier is ‘desperate’ to make the move to Old Trafford although the North London club are insisting that they will not let the Englishman leave.
At 23, he’d bring in some more youthful exuberance to the table, whilst being a player who knows his way around the football field in a tough, physical, Premier League battle. For that kind of footballer you always tend to pay a premium, just look at how much Romelu Lukaku set us back…
I like Dier and I think he’s a decent player, but I just don’t see him as that defensive-midfield game-changer that we’ve been so desperately lacking in for the last few years.
On top of that, we know how hard it is to negotiate with Daniel Levy, and that’s probably been made even more difficult when you factor in that Spurs have already lost one of their key stars in the form of Kyle Walker. They are hardly going to want to lose another in the same window, especially if they have their own title aspirations.
