What’s the Story?
Spanish newspaper Don Balon broke the sensational news on Tuesday morning that Barcelona star Neymar wants to leave the Nou Camp and is supposedly in talks with Manchester United chiefs over a move.
However, no transfer would likely occur until next summer, with the player reportedly keen to give another years’ service to Barcelona to try and claim the domestic crown back from rivals Real Madrid.
Mourinho would be required to match the £200million buyout clause in Neymar’s contract to land the talented Brazilian, despite that fact that Transfermarkt values the player at £88.7million.
With 20 goals and 19 assists in 36 appearances, Neymar has once again proven his worth. However, there were certain spells in the season when the 25-year-old seemed uninterested and frustrated.
While £200million would blow any previous transfer fee in the footballing world out of the water, there is no doubt that Manchester United could afford that kind of figure. That kind of astronomical fee would only be considered an acceptable investment if the player you received in return was one of the 5 best on earth. Fortunately for United, Neymar is in that calibre.
