Fabregas has been a key player for Chelsea over the last few years, but under Conte, his influence has reduced somewhat – with the duo of Nemanja Matic and N’Golo Kante typically preferred by the Italian last season.
However, next season looks set to tell a very different tale for Fabregas – with the Evening Standard reporting that Antonio Conte has told the Spaniard that he wants him to stay at Stamford Bridge next season, promising him a regular first team role over the course of the next campaign.
Given the departures of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Nathaniel Chalobah, and the likely impending transfer of Nemanja Matic, it is important that Fabregas is retained by Chelsea this summer – or they could risk lacking depth in the heart of the midfield.
That said, it is tough to work out quite where Fabregas – who is rated at £29.75m by Transfer Markt – will fit into Antonio Conte’s plans next season. A rotational role is expected, but that clearly isn’t what Fabregas will want – but with the recent arrival of Tiemoue Bakayoko and the fine form of N’Golo Kante, it seems unlikely that he will start ahead of either of the duo.
The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern don’t mind, though, and are pleased to hear that Fabregas is likely to stay.
