The midfielder is looking to reignite his career after a poor campaign for Bayern Munich, which saw him lose his place in the Portugal senior squad and drop down to the Under-21s.

But the signing of Tiemoue Bakayoko, as well as the presence of established stars Cesc Fabregas and N’Golo Kante, has made him fear for his game time at Stamford Bridge.

Sanches is unwilling to swap one bench for another at a critical stage in his career and development, and now looks set to move to big-spending Milan instead.

He made just six Bundesliga starts last season, and Bayern reinforced their midfield even more during the off-season, and Carlo Ancelotti has spoken of his willingness to allow the teenager to leave.

Conte, meanwhile, is still on the hunt for new several new faces and is growing frustrated with Chelsea’s lack of action in the transfer market.

Although the club have spent over £100m on new players already, the Italian still reportedly wants to sign Alex Sandro, Virgil van Dijk, Antonio Candreva and Fernando Llorente.
