ESPN reports that sources close to the player have said that the player is ready to snub a move to the Camp Nou and become a key player for the Red Devils in the future.
Ahead of the Europa League Final last Wednesday, when quizzed about the possibility of him ending his career at United, he said: “Yes, to finish your career in this club you have to perform every season, and it’s not so easy.
“I think a lot of players have the quality to make a very good season, but the most difficult thing is the consistency, I am still 27.
“Hopefully one day you can compare me with legends of the club, but you cannot do it yet.” he added.
Herrera joined Manchester United in 2014, and currently has only just a year left on his deal, but United are ready to offer him a new and improved contract.
After a slow start to life at The Theatre of Dreams, Herrera has become one of the key cog in the wheel of Mourinho’s team, offering guile, attitude and balance in a midfield lacking players ready to give their all, and this attitude has turned him to a fan favourite.
The former Athletic Bilbao recently won the United’s Player of the Year award and earned massive praise for man marking Eden Hazard in a 2-0 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford earlier in the season.
