Tiemoue Bakayoko has struggled with a knee problem since arriving from Monaco in the summer while N’Golo Kante remains sidelined with a hamstring injury, leaving the Blues light in midfield with Cesc Fabregas one of few fully fit options.
Niguez has really emerged as one of La Liga’s top midfielders over the last 18 months and the 22-year-old has begun to break into the Spanish international setup.
Initially part of the Real Madrid youth setup, Niguez left for city rivals Atletico in 2008 where he’s since spent the entirety of his professional career and back in the summer he signed a nine-year deal with the club which will see him stay at Atletico until 2026.
