JUST IN: Chelsea Name Want-Away Striker In their Champions League Squad? The Right Move By Conte?

Friday, 8 September 2017

Chelsea started their season not in the best possible way, having faced an early defeat against Burnley in their very first game of the Premier League. However, the reigning champions have clawed their way back in, in the last two matches in the tournament and have been clinical in their display to notch up back to back victories against Tottenham Hotspur and Everton in successive matches.

The Blues have brought in a new striker in the form of Alvaro Morata this summer, who has been looking good since his arrival at Stamford Bridge and has already notched up two goals to show for his efforts. However, the defending Premier League champions are looking for another player in order to spearhead their attack, which might be their rebellious marksman and Morata’s compatriot Diego Costa.

The Spaniard scored 19 goals last season and was the main man behind Chelsea’s success after a dismal performance in the season prior to the last one. The player, however, was reportedly kept out of his future plans by the West London club’s new gaffer Antonio Conte, who did not find him good enough to spearhead his side’s attack in the new season despite his brilliant goal scoring record in the last term.

This made the hot-headed striker go on a collision course with the club and his coach, which resulted in an ugly spat. The player has been kept out of the Chelsea side for their title defending campaign this season in the Premier League, which could a result of that altercation.

However, as a major surprise, the Spanish international’s name has been announced in the Champions League squad by the Blues for this season. This has raised a number of eyebrows and the player has been recalled to the West London club. However, Costa has been looking to leave this summer and move back to his former club Atletico Madrid.

The player first denied to join his teammates at Chelsea but now has reportedly come back to Stamford Bridge and might resume training in the next few days. This will lead to a reunion between the Italian coach Antonio Conte and the estranged Spanish striker, who played a very important role in making his very first season in the Premier League a successful one.

However, the move might turn out to be a wise one on the part of the club, as they might use the player to strengthen their attack in the Champions League, where they will be facing some of the biggest teams in the world and a player like Costa can come handy against them. So do you think he should be given another chance?
