The Englishman, having been criticised by Mourinho for his lack of work rate earlier in the month, suffered an ankle injury during Man United’s 1-1 draw with Swansea City in April.

He was seen participating in a training game with first team squad members last month and has featured for the reserves against Swansea City.

And Mourinho, speaking at a press conference ahead of the clash with Everton, noted that the 22-year-old was now fully fit and available for selection and added that Rojo could return by November.

“Luke Shaw is not injured anymore so is a question of form, is a question of option but is not injured, he’s recovered,” he said.

“Marcos Rojo is still in the timings of such an important injury, everything went really well, but is not training in a normal session, just parts of it, so he probably has a couple of months.”

The manager, with Shaw’s injury record in mind, could possibly look to ease him back into action as opposed to throwing him straight in like Ashley Young.

Either way, whether he features against Everton or Burton Albion, Shaw’s presence in the squad serves as a huge bonus for Mourinho. Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind are disciplined full-backs but lack the raw speed needed to deal with, day, player’s of Mame Biram Diouf’s speed – something Shaw, when fully fit, can provide in abundance with Antonio Valencia bombing forward on the right hand side.
