AMAZING: José Mourinho gives good news ahead of Everton clash

Sunday, 17 September 2017

José Mourinho confirmed in Friday’s press conference that at least one name has been struck off United’s injury list, with the United boss declaring that Luke Shaw is “not injured anymore.” The England left-back hasn’t featured for the Reds since pre-season, though could make the matchday squad when Everton visit Old Trafford on Sunday. With United’s options at full-back having been so limited in his absence, it’s good news.

However, Mourinho was less positive about a couple of United’s other injured players. Marcos Rojo — another option at left-back — “still needs, probably, a couple of months,” while the gaffer declined to give any update at all on Paul Pogba. The French midfielder, who went off in the routine win over Basel in midweek, will not feature on Sunday due to a hamstring injury, and Mourinho is apparently not thinking “any further than that.” Yeah, right.

Mourinho was also on hand to spout platitudes aplenty, making the frankly audacious claim that “Everton have lots of good players, they’re a good team and it will be a very difficult match for us.”

Similar things were said about the returning Wayne Rooney: “I think that he will get the welcome he deserves. I think sometimes the word ‘legend’ in this country comes too easily. That’s not the situation in his case - he’s a real legend, with the number of goals he scored and trophies he won. He’s clearly one of the most important players in Manchester United’s history and I think the stadium will show him that respect he deserves.”
