Conte is keen to add to his squad this summer after bringing in Tiemoue Bakayoko, Antonio Rudiger, Willy Caballero and Alvaro Morata.
However, the numbers are not in the Blues favor with only 24 players paraded in the FA Community Shield game against Arsenal last Sunday compared to Arsenal’s 41.
Conte knows he needs more players going into the season with Champions Football to add to the domestic competitions and among the list of positions to be beefed up, the wing back is one he has attempted to fill this summer.
Alex Sandro of Juventus had been targeted but Juventus have played hard ball in the negotiations, leaving Chelsea to turn to other targets.
According to Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol, Chelsea are very interested in the 23-year old and will spend up to £25 million to land Cancelo.
Conte wants to sign at least one wing-back this summer and one of the players he is interested in is Joao Cancelo.
He’s a Valencia right-back who was scouted playing for Portugal at the European Under-21 Championships. And he’s been watched again during pre-season.

Tottenham Hotpsur are also closely monitoring the situation at Valencia with Mauricio Pochettino keen on adding to his squad, following the club’s inability to land any of their targets this summer.
Some Spurs fans will be drooling over the prospects of having Cancelo in their side after the departure of Kyle Walker to Manchester City.
