Shrewsbury have signed Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson on loan
He is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Premier League side and has previously been on loan at Stockport and Grimsby.
The 20-year-old played under Shrews boss Paul Hurst at Grimsby last year and claimed he is still looking to continue his development and pick up minutes.
Mourinho cut his loan at Grimsby short in February following United third-choice goalkeeper Joel Castro Pereira‘s injury, but he’ll be back in League One for the 2017/18 season.
A statement on United’s official website read, “Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has joined League One side Shrewsbury Town on loan for the 2017/18 season.”
He was part of England’s Under-20 squad that won the World Cup in South Korea in June and would have struggled to pick up any minutes under Mourinho, especially with the current goalkeeper situation at the club.
With David de Gea as the first-choice goalkeeper, Sergio Romero as a backup and Pereira in front of him, Henderson has a long way to go before he’ll regularly feature for the first team but if he impresses with Shrewsbury, it’ll be a step in the right direction.
