Chelsea fans are destroying Conte for what he said about Morata after Inter defeat

Chelsea's pre-season tour came to a rather disappointing end on Saturday afternoon as they lost 2-1 to Inter Milan in Singapore.

Goals from Stevan Jovetic and Manchester United target Ivan Perisic sank the lacklustre Blues, whose consolation came from an incredible Geoffrey Kondogbia own goal.

The French midfielder attempted to pass the ball back to his goalkeeper from 40 yards out but instead found the back of the net with an inch-perfect lob.

It's been a mixed bag of results for Chelsea as they prepare for the 2017/18 season, having cruised past Arsenal to win 3-0 but lost 3-2 to Bayern Munich days later.

Pre-season results usually bear no reflection on what's to come, of course, but Antonio Conte will have wanted his side to avoid defeat nonetheless.

One problem he may have when the new season begins is how to incorporate summer signing Alvaro Morata and Michy Batshuayi.

Both players are gunning to be first-choice striker but, as we know, there's only one spot available, with Batshuayi getting the nod against Inter.

His two goals against Arsenal last weekend clearly left Conte impressed, and so he started upfront with Morata forced to play on left wing.

Safe to say Conte's plan backfired, with Morata producing a poor performance as a result of being out of his comfort zone.

Conte was asked about the Spaniard's display after the game and said that he 'must improve his physical condition to fit with his idea of football' (see below).

That would usually be a fine comment to make by a manager on a new signing, but Chelsea fans are not impressed.

As you can see in the following Twitter reaction, they've been slamming Conte on social media for making such a silly claim after playing Morata out of position.

Chelsea fans have every right to criticise Conte, who should have known better than to play his new £58 million-rated striker out on the wing.

Pre-season is all about testing the players and trying new formations, but Morata has and always will be a striker, not a winger. Hopefully Conte has learned his lesson. script async
