Sky Sports are among those reporting that the Old Trafford giants have beaten Paris Saint-Germain to the signature of the 28-year-old Croatia winger, with United manager Jose Mourinho believed to have played a central role in talks with Perisic.
Mourinho is keen to add experienced and proven performers to his squad this summer, with the winger who scored ten goals for Inter Milan in the Serie A this season one of his top targets.
A four-year deal is believed to have been offered to Perisic's representatives by United, with the salary increase one of the big attractions for a player who has been linked with a move to England's Premier League time and again in recent years.
Perisic’s contract with Inter still has three years left to run, but his employers are keen to free up funds for a big summer of spending as they look to comply with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules.
With a new head coach set to be appointed by Inter imminently, the funds generated by the sale of Perisic and the space created on the club’s wage bill have given United and Mourinho their chance to swoop.
Perisic could be the first of a series of big name arrivals at United this summer, with Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann and Burnley defender Michael Keane also believed to be at the top of Mourinho’s wanted list.
Meanwhile, stories in the UK Sunday newspapers suggest Wayne Rooney will not be re-joining his old club Everton this summer, with a move to to China or America's MLS now believed to be the remaining offers on the table as he looks to secure a settlement payment from United to terminate his contract.
