Chelsea In Pole Position To Land This Columbian Star: Just What Conte Needs?

Thursday, 25 May 2017

Real Madrid have been crowned the Champions of the Spanish La Liga this season right on the final day of the season, toppling their arch rivals Barcelona to lift the trophy after a long gap of five years. All the players have contributed to the success of the club and are now looking forward to make it a second title in the current season by defeating Italian champions Juventus in the final of the UEFA Champions League to be played on 4th June.

However, there have been some players in the Galacticos side who have been made to play the second fiddle despite their immense talent and good goal scoring record. One of them is the Columbian skipper James Rodriguez, who has been evidently underplayed throughout the season by the current coach Zinedine Zidane, handing him only 13 starts in the La Liga and only 4 in the Champions League this term.

This has reportedly made the Columbian star man sceptical about his future in the Real Madrid side and he is considering a move away from Santiago Bernabeu, preferably to the Premier League. Rodriguez has been linked with a number of top Premier League clubs to make a move in summer, one of them being the current champions Chelsea.
The Blues have won their sixth Premier League title this term and are looking to continue their good run in the next season as well. Antonio Conte, their present coach, has been looking to bring in quite a few top class players into the side to strengthen his side for the next season and James Rodriguez is speculated to be one of them.

The fact that the West London club is back in the Champions League in the next season is another big reason for their Italian coach to bring in top class players into the side so that they can cope with the European giants including the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich. In this situation, with his prowess and superb goal scoring record, Rodriguez can be seen as a player whom Chelsea can look up to for playing a pivotal role in their lineup, given that he signs for them in the summer.

After the injury to Welshman Gareth Bale that saw him getting sidelined for a chunk of the recently concluded season, it could have been a perfect chance for the Columbian star to take up the charge of the attack along with Cristiano Ronaldo. However, Zidane handed the opportunity to Isco, who made full use of it, reducing Rodriguez to a mere substitute for most of the season.
