The Imo State Government has promised to do everything within its power to ensure that the flood victims in the riverine areas of Oguta Local Government of the state are rescued to ease their loss and pain.

The victims had lost property and farmlands to the ravaging flood and had been rendered homeless.

Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, said this when he visited Omachishi community of Oguta to take stock of the level of destruction caused by the flood menace.

Madumere, while delivering Governor Rochas Okorocha’s message, commiserated with the victims, describing the flood incidence as a disaster which had caused pain and huge loss to the people. He however urged them to keep off from the bank of the river so as not to be submerged in the flood.

The deputy governor said that health workers and environmentalists will be deployed in the area so as to provide medication and make effort to prevent any epidemics that may arise from the flood.

Speaking further, Madumere said he was in the know that the Deputy Chief of Staff to the state government, Mr. Kingsley Uju, had visited with relief material but that other relief items are on the way to serve as palliatives.

He maintained that the officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) would also ensure that they are properly settled to avoid any avoidable pain.

He, therefore, assured the people of the area that the state government would liaise with the Federal government to ensure that they get necessary relief so as not to feel the heavy impact of the destruction.

Earlier, one of the victims, Sabinus Asuzu, had decried the huge losses incurred due to the ravaging flood as their farms and homes have been submerged in water. He feared that the incident might portend untold hardship on the people of the area who are largely farmers.

Also, one Mrs. Joshephine Nwadiaro, who is in her late 60s, said they need urgent medical attention for most of them who sustained various degrees of injuries while they were scampering for safety. She however thanked God that no life was lost.
