JUST IN: Antonio Conte reveals probable new Chelsea formation ahead of Barcelona game

Saturday 17 February 2018

Antonio Conte has been recently criticized for being rigid with his ideology that has seen him stuck with a particular failing tactics. However, the Italian tactician is looking to accommodating new boy Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata together up front, which means a change in formation, according to report.

Giroud joined Chelsea from Arsenal at the end of the winter transfer window but he was signed to play second fiddle to Morata. He’s made his debut but Conte has not featured the French forward and Morata on the field at the same time.

Giroud put up a barnstorming display against West Bromwich Albion in the League on Monday but he was withdrawn after an hour. Morata was thrown into action in his stead and the Spaniard also put up an impressive display, and now, Conte is considering playing the two of them upfront.

Chelsea play Hull City in a fitfth round FA Cup game later today and Conte was quizzed ahead of the game about playing the two strikers together and he said:

‘I think that in the future yes, it could happen. ‘If we decide to play with the three midfielders. But during the game can happen, but now I think it’s very soon to answer this question.

‘Don’t forget we are playing with a system from last season and in the case [I play with two strikers] it means Hazard, Pedro and Willian are out.’ On the importance of having such options available to him, Conte continued: ‘Yeah for sure, in this moment it’s important to have all your players available.

‘To have two No.9s, Morata and Giroud, to have two options is very important for us. Don’t forget for a lot of time we tried to play with Hazard as a No.9!’

Conte now has depth in his attack and so, Giroud could start today while Morata could be saved for the Champions League tie against Barcelona next week.
