Manchester United news: Mourinho says Pogba will face Crystal Palace

Thursday, 18 May 2017

Jose Mourinho has one eye on Manchester United’s Europa League Final in Stockholm as he discusses team news for Sunday’s visit of Crystal Palace

Speaking to the clubs official website, the Portuguese manager highlighted that Sunday will see the likelihood of young players and fringe squad members getting an opportunity to play and impress at Old Trafford.

Mourinho said that “Sunday will be a big day for the kids because lots of them are going to play. I hope the crowd enjoys that, in spite of it not being a big, strong Manchester United team.

“I hope to play Joel {Pereira} against Crystal Palace. He’s a very good goalkeeper so we’re in safe hands.”

The Portuguese goalkeeper made his debut for the first team in the Emirates FA Cup win over on January 29th against Wigan Athletic. This was after returning from a loan deal in January with Primeira Liga side Belenenses in his home country.

Coupled with some youthful players, the United boss is expected to include Paul Pogba in the line up. Pogba returns following the death of his father Fassou Antoine, who passed away following a long illness last Friday. His compassionate leave meant he didn’t figure in the games with Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton. But match fitness will be key as Mourinho hopes to have the midfielder in sharp form for the Europa League final next week, in a game where victory will hide the blushes of finishing outside the top four in the Premier League and securing a place in next season’s Champion’s League.
