GOOD NEWS FOR THE BLUES AS FORMAL CHELSEA STAR TO RETURN AFTER 2 YEARS

Sunday, 21 May 2017

How many of Chelsea’s loanees have impressed in 16/17?

It isn’t easy coming through the ranks at Chelsea.

Whilst the very best such as Thibaut Courtois make it past the “loan army” stage, plenty with high hopes fail to make the grade at Stamford Bridge.

This summer Dom Solanke will leave on a free transfer after bagging tons of goals and hype in the Chelsea youth sides.

Whilst Romelu Lukaku could return to Stamford Bridge in a mega money move from Everton.

When you mix the best youngsters in the country with some of the finest from abroad as well, it is far from easy to make it through to the Chelsea first team.

The Chelsea loan army

This summer we are likely to hear plenty about Chelsea’s loan army, both incoming and outgoing.

Whilst one highly impressive defender looks likely to return: Andreas Christensen.

The Danish central defender has impressed for Borussia Monchengladbach over the past two seasons.

Capped by Denmark, Christensen was also successful for the Chelsea youth team but has played just 12 Premier League minutes for the first team.
Gladbach bid farewell to Andreas Christensen

On Saturday, Christensen was feted by Gladbach as they drew their final game in the Bundesliga 2-2 with Darmstadt.

Before the match there was a presentation, including Christensen and Mahmoud Dahoud, who is joining Borussia Dortmund next season.

Christensen posted a picture on his Instagram on Sunday, with the following message: “Thank you @borussia #einmalborusseimmerborusse Mo, good luck at BVB.”
Christensen to replace Kurt Zouma?

It is a sign of how well Christensen played for Borussia Monchengladbach that they made a fuss about a player that had been there for just two seasons.

The recent rumours surrounding Christensen are that he will be included in Antonio Conte’s Chelsea squad next season as a replacement for Kurt Zouma, who will go out on loan.

But, Gladbach are open to another season of Christensen on loan, if he looks unlikely to get the minutes he desires in 2017/2018.
